Meet Colin

  • Here is the story of Colin, his house, his granary, the wheat hidden inside, the rat that ate it, the cat that surprised the rat — and more zany twists and turns!

Meet Colin is the adaptation of an English nursery rhyme, This Is The House That Jack Built, the story of which plays out in the 16th century. At first passed down through the oral tradition, the song has been adapted many times into book form.

The illustrated edition by Randolph Caldecott in 1878 was one of the first illustrated albums for kids.

The illustrations by Gérard DuBois found in this version give the story a new rhythm, while taking into account its rich past.

Gerard Dubois was born in France where he studied graphic design. Graduated after five years in 1989, then crossed the Atlantic to live in Montreal, to work as an illustrator. Since then, his work has appeared in major north American and European publications, and he illustrated 30 books.
His books were awarded Best book of The New York Times in 2021, Canadian General Governor’s award in 2021, Bologna Ragazzi Award in the fiction category in 2022 and Book of the year by the Victoria&Albert Museum in London in 2022. He also received the Hamilton King Award and four gold medals, from the Society of Illustrators in New York.
