Homes from Above
For thousands of years, humans have shaped nature to suit their way of life. To understand how humans build and live in various contemporary homes around the world, the lively text describes the lives of fictional local characters.
From Arequipa, the White City built at the foot of a volcano, to the Mongolian steppes roamed by the Tsaatans and their reindeers, passing by the stilt houses of the Bajau and the ultra-urban sprawl of New York, each landscape invites us to reflect on our relationship with nature.
THE AUTHORS
One is a physics engineer and technical director at a CNRS space laboratory; the other has been an engineer, a community centre manager, an association director… and is now a documentary film scriptwriter.
Together, for over 15 years, they have written around twenty children’s novels and non-fiction books on scientific topics and social issues.
THE ILLUSTRATOR
After an initial career as an architect, David Guyon eventually turned to graphic design and illustration. Deeply committed to environmental issues, he regularly works with organisations in the social and solidarity economy.
He has also contributed to magazines such as Kostar, Bastille, and Télérama, as well as to projects for Greater Nantes (West of France). Homes from Above is his first book.
