Soil, A Worm's Eye View
About this book
Unearth the hidden ecosystem that keeps our planet alive, with a trusty worm as your guide.
“Before we go any further, I need to clear something up. This is not dirt. Dirt is what you wipe off your shoes. I live in soil”.
Join a very knowledgeable earthworm on a journey beneath your feet to uncover the hidden world that makes life on Earth possible. This title explores the incredible world of plants, microbes, fungi and minerals that work together to support almost every ecosystem on Earth.
Discover how nutrients move through the ground, how the mycelial network functions, why healthy soil is full of life, and what happens when it is damaged by intensive farming, pollution, urban development and climate change.Along the way, readers will learn how regenerative farming, composting and rewilding can help restore one of our planet's most precious natural resources.
Written in a witty, conversational voice and narrated by a charming earthworm, this accessible introduction pairs cutting-edge soil science with Gus Scott's lively cartoon illustrations, bringing one of today's most important environmental topics vividly to life. This exciting title ties into science and geography curriculums, and includes activities and a glossary to encourage further exploration.THE AUTHOR
